Hello! My name is Sami Leier, I’m a Canadian Graphic and Web Designer from Montreal, Quebec. When it comes to design, I try to express my personality by creating something that reflects both me and the client while staying cautious of their requirements for their project. It would be greatly appreciated if you could take some time to look through my design portfolio, which can be found here. I really look forward to hearing from you!
My design story started back when I was in my early teens, however I have had a huge passion for drawing and creating since I was very young. I always imagined myself working in the visual arts field, but once I hit high school, I realized I had a much larger passion for drawing on the computer, which introduced me to digital art. I bought my first laptop when I was 13, which happened to be a MacBook Pro that I still use and love today as my primary device.
I really enjoy the graphic design aspect of this program, I enjoy making posters/ads and designing logos and labels as I find I am very strong in these categories.
My goal as a designer is to help people and businesses paint their picture and find their brand. I’d like to do so by working in a group of other designers where I can contribute my ideas and skills to create the best possible designs. If you’d like to see my best work from my time at John Abbott College, please head over to my portfolio, found here.
This is a logo I created for a label design project where we had to create our own brand. This logo is an alternate and simpler version of the main logo, which can be found on the labels.
Jack of Hearts is an Ice Cream company I came up with as part as a menu design project. Much like Arrow Soda, this version of the logo is an alternate logo, however I used this on the menu itself.
This project is very special to me as it was the first graphic design job I got. I created this logo for my mom who is a Dance Cardio/Zumba instructor. This is the alternate logo which is used on her business cards.
Arrow Soda is a brand I created for a label design project. This is by far my favorite work so far as I put my personality all out in this design. Although we didn’t have to print the labels, I decided to do so for presentation purposes.
As part of the same label design project, we had to design a wine bottle label. I decided to name the winery after a street in my hometown called Birch Hill. For this project, we had to take our focus away from all the bright colors and design for an older age group, which I found difficult to do.
Tiki Cola is a product I created and branded for our first public presentation at John Abbott. I started off by creating a logo and colour palette, then came up with flavours and designed the labels labels from there.
As part of our Design Studio II class, I created and branded an ice cream parlor called Jack of Hearts. The original color palette I used ended up being too dark and unappealing given the topic; ice cream. So I redesigned the menu almost entirely and gave it a new theme to fit the look of an ice cream store. I also gave it a simpler feel, easier to read.
For this project, we had to create an awareness poster on a topic of our choice. I chose to go with texting/walking and driving, since both are equally as bad. For the design, I was inspired by retro posters and decided to create a two-tone flat design poster.
Our final project to do in our last publication design course was to take your favorite magazine and recreate it using their media kit. To do this, we had to write our own articles on the topic of the magazine and create our own content. I think the strongest part of my magazine is the layout and use of minimalist style.
Along with the product we had to create for the public presentation, we had to design a website. The most difficult part of this project was learning how to use Bootstrap and getting a feel for it.
Help on the Streets is a made up non-profit organization I created to design a minimalist website. The hardest part of this project was deciding which elements on the webpage I could do without, the process of elimination was quite difficult.
This project was one of my favorites simply because the content is based off of me and it is here to help me. I worked really hard on this site as we were given the whole semester to work on it. I find this site to be the best that I've made.
I am a hard worker who learns and adapts quickly, and I am very efficient with my time. I follow instructions as provided, and I complete all my duties as efficiently and effectively as possible with a positive attitude to ensure customer satisfaction.
