Graphic & Web Design - Vernisage Exhbition Poster

GWD Exhibition Poster

- Project overview -

For this project, I had to create a poster for the John Abbott College: Annual Graphic & Web Design Exhibition. The poster had to be in the style of the "Bauhaus" Abstract Expressionist Movement. I was only purely allowed to use typography, colors, lines, and shapes. I had to consider typographic hierarchy and present the information carefully for the viewer. I did research on the movement and discovered the work of Josef Albers. He inspired me to create my poster in an abstract style.

Music Album & Packaging

- Project overview -

For this project, I was to choose a musician or band and design the entire album and packaging artwork. The project had to be done using vector only. I was also only allowed to use a maximum of two colors and the artwork had to be strictly outlined. I chose Grimes as my musician and her album "Art Angels". It was critical for me to choose an artist that I love and understand in order for me to execute a successful design.

Flat movie poster - Inglorious Basterds

Flat movie poster

- Project overview -

I was to design a flat movie poster that had to have one symbol iconic to the movie that represented the entire film in a nutshell. I chose to design my poster on one of my favourite Quentin Tarantino films "Inglorious Basterds". I began the project by watching the movie over again while I took constructive notes. Then I drew out multiple concepts in my sketchbook. I came up with the idea of a nitrate film with the "Third Reich eagle" being burnt. Which symbolizes how cinema brought down the "Third Reich" in the movie.

Cyberviolence Awareness Poster

Cyberviolence Awareness

- Project overview -

I was to design a poster to spread awareness of cyberviolence in online video games. The poster had to convey the offline emotional harm that the social issue causes rather than physical harm. I began the project by drawing a concept in my sketchbook. I came up with the idea of having one person in the middle of the poster who in real life is the victim of harassment but online in a video game he is the one harassing. I commnuicated this idea by drawing him with a split personality. I used the colour blue on the left to symbolize "good" and the colour red on the right to symbolize the "evil". In the video game world, it's a reference to blue team vs. red team which I found to be quite clever. The "good vs the bad", "angel vs devil", the whole point of my poster is to make the viewer realize their actions and change their behavior when they play online video games. I was very grateful to get the news that my poster was to be put up around video game studios across Montreal! And continues to be used in Eric Caverns Digital Literacy Project.

BDD Awareness poster

BDD Awareness

- Project overview -

I was to create something to communicate Body Dysmorphic Disorder. I was not allowed to use any imagery of body parts. I decided the best way to communicate BDD was through conceptual design by painting something abstract. I felt that this was the best way I could communicate the raw emotions of what it must be like to suffer from this mental disorder. I began by doing research, I learned that the disorder is commonly triggered when an individual was to look at themselves in the mirror. I came up with the idea of having multiple lines crossing over the canvas to give off as a shattered mirror. Once i had my idea in mind I stretched the canvas myself and painted the entire piece using acrylic paint and tape strips for the lines.
