My name is Nich Guilbault, and I’m a dedicated designer and illustrator with an interest in classical animation. Having grown up on animated films like Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King, I’m passionate about visual storytelling and storyboarding.
I find the use of expressive movements, body language and composition to communicate complex ideas fascinating, and I carry this appreciation over into all of my design work. Likewise, I strive to ensure that all aspects of my print or web design pieces express a unified “story” or idea.
My Studies
For the past 3 years, I’ve studied in John Abbott’s Graphic & Web Design program, acquiring a wide range of design skills in print and web alike. During the fall of 2019, I plan to start university for animation to pursue a career in storyboarding. Pending acceptance, I will be attending either Sheridan College in Oakville Ontario or Concordia University in Montreal.
My Expertise
I’m well practiced in using the Adobe Creative Suite, as well as both HTML and CSS. Moreover, my frequent sketching and strong organizational skills make me a strong choice for jobs in print or UI/UX design.
Additionally, with years of experience using graphics tablets and digital art software, I excel in hand-drawn and vector illustration. I also have some practice working with 2D animation software, and a good understanding of fundamental animation principles.
Seeking Experience
I’m looking to work as a designer and illustrator in the West island or downtown Montreal area to gain experience working in the field. I’m currently living in Vaudreuil, giving me easy access to this area, but I’m flexible and can relocate as necessary.
I am open to any print or web-based internships, but have a preference for anything related to illustration or animation.
In the Fall of 2019, I’ll be either relocating to Toronto or downtown Montreal pending acceptance to university. Regardless of this, though, I’m available for work in the West island and Montreal area up until early August.
