It’s taken me time to find my calling, which is turning ideas into design.
About me
I originally studied Creative Arts at CEGEP, I tried Art History at McGill University and I spent a year learning about Fashion Design at Lasalle College. One thing always stayed the same: I’ve never strayed from the creative field. I have the experience of having tried different things.
Finding my passion in the Graphic and Web Design program at John Abbott College, I excelled in my studies. My work has been chosen by the town of Sainte Anne de Bellevue for an information panel, and I have designed logos for two John Abbott College clubs. One of the reasons my work was chosen was because I truly try to understand what’s being asked of me. I attempt to complete work that fits with the client’s vision, not necessarily what I would do for myself.
This program has taught me technical skills and I am able to now join the workforce where I can turn ideas into design. I’m a mature young professional with business experience who is personable, detail-oriented and from time to time, a little intense about deadlines – I stick to them.
Next steps in design
Ideally, I would like to work in a company where there are strong values, especially when it comes to treating employees fairly. I would love to find a company that has a collaborative and friendly work environment. I don’t want to be a cog in the machine. In other words, I would like to be part of a team that is making good products. I really enjoy working with page layout, whether for print or for web. My preference is for print, but when it came time to write a post last year, I chose to write about web. I’m open to what I work on – as long as it’s related to graphic and web design, of course.
The Montreal design community is very collaborative, and I want to be a part of that. I want to meet great people and grow as a person and as a designer. I know I haven’t reached my potential, and I’m looking for a company that will challenge me to be better.
