The neon melting heart

One night me and my friend decided to head downtown to try nighttime photography. The previous day I watched a Peter McKinnon video on night time photography and I wanted to try it. We walked around, took some long exposure shots of cars passing by. We kept walking down to the Old Port, we found a bunch of restaurants with neon signs. I found this one sign and I had to get a picture of it because it was just too nice. The next day I brought it into light room and did some adjustments. Firstly I did the lens correction, I then saturated the blue and I saturated the red but added some pink hue to it. I then added a vignette to make it “more dramatic”, then added clarity and texture. Lastly I sharpened and did noise reduction adjustments.

To this day it is one of my favourite picture I’ve taken. It works perfectly for a background lock screen for a phone.

The Yellow House

This picture was for the one point-perspective assignment. To enhance the depth of field I added a vignette to get the viewers focused on the yellow house. In addition, I also change the tone of the buildings to a blue tone to make the scene more cold and cloudy.

Wagen’s in the West Island

This shot was taken on a rainy evening in the West Island. I decided to enhance the blue colours in the photo because it was just that kind of feeling I had at the time I shot it. It’s also 1 point perspective.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Sonya Adelman and I am a young Graphic Design student in my final year at John Abbott College. I have been taken by world media and the advertising world since I was an eleven year old watching an animated Oreo commercial on cable television. Advertising and Graphic Design to me is the perfect combination of arts and marketing I’ve always sought to aim towards in my future professional career. In this decade I’ve continued to be interested in that same field, not without learning a few things along the way; I love to write, I am obsessed with social media and I absolutely adore anything to do with packaging since you can have fun with doodles, funky colours and shapes!

I plan on continuing my education in graphic design before searching for a full-time job. I told myself before coming to John Abbott college that I want to learn as much as possible. Not only to increase my knowledge but create more opportunities for myself in the future as a vector artist.
